This course is designed to enhance the skills of veterinary professionals and animal caregivers in recognising and responding appropriately to feline behavioural signals. Through a series of focused modules, participants will learn to identify key indicators of fear, anxiety, pain, and frustration in cats by interpreting body language and facial expressions.
Participants will gain practical knowledge on how to safely approach and physically interact with cats, including when such interactions should be avoided to prevent stress or aggression. The course also explores the limitations and appropriate applications of towel wraps and distraction techniques, including when to use FELIWAY® to enhance the calming effects of these methods. Learners will become familiar with a variety of towel wrapping techniques and distraction methods suitable for common procedures.
Additionally, the course covers the critical assessment of when sedation should be considered and provides guidance on safe and effective intramuscular (IM) sedation practices. Beyond handling techniques, the course encourages a welfare-first approach by identifying small, actionable changes that can be implemented in the clinic environment to enhance feline wellbeing.
Ideal for anyone working with cats in a clinical or shelter setting, this course empowers participants with the confidence and knowledge to make feline interactions safer, less stressful, and more humane, ultimately contributing to better welfare outcomes.
